Saguaro Fruits - 2014 - Part A

The months of May and June are historically the driest of months in the Sonoran Desert.  Yet, in the time of the desert when all the winter grasses are long dried to brittle sticks, Mother Nature provides food for the birds and animals of the desert with her abundance of saguaro fruits.  Even the native people of this desert harvested the fruits each year waiting for the return of rain during what is called the summer monsoons which usually begin in July.
Some not familiar with the Sonoran Desert think that the saguaro cactus actually blooms with a scarlet red flower.  But, the truth is that the scarlet red "flower-like" structure is actually the open ovary of the saguaro bloom.  Here are a series of saguaro fruits pictures from June 2014.  Each fruit contains up to 2000 seeds!  Hope you enjoy our pictures!
