July 7th is the 473rd anniversary of the Battle of Hawikuh when a Spanish army, led by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, fought the first battle against the Native American people of the American Southwest at a small pueblo in what is today northwestern New Mexico. It would begin 346 years of warfare in our land between Europeans and Native Americans.
